They say that being a reader is part of what makes a great writer, but I'm not certain I believe that is true. My sister is certainly not a reader, but she is a great writer. I don't believe that in my entire life I have ever seen her read a book in her spare time. Spare time is not something my sister has a lot of, but on the occasion that she does have it, you'll find her running around the lakes, or at the gym, or at a good restaurant, or downloading music, or planning her Next Big Thing. You will not find her with a book. But still these words come out of her that leave me speechless, that make top ranked law school deans leave her handwritten notes on her acceptance letters on the excellence of her personal statement that she wrote in the rush of an hour. And even though all of this writing she is doing will lead to her eventually leaving me, I am so proud of her and honored to know her. I tell everyone I know and everyone I don't about my amazing sister. And there's really nothing much more fun on a Sunday night than eating cookies and hanging around in my dad's study with her and my brother thinking up old obscure country songs that we used to love and trying to name that tune in one word. It is the dorkiest thing but it is so totally us. And somehow we will figure out how to make their Christmas lights spell LSU on their balcony over the lakes for all the runners to see. And it's simple times like this that make the nightmares fade away. ![]()
