I would just like to say that I can't look at the date 4/20 without remembering how one of my students wrote "420" on a personality collage that he made when we were studying characterization and when he made a point to say, "420, Ms. B.! Huh huh huh! 420!" and I told him he couldn't hang it up with the rest of the collages, he tried to convince me that it was his baseball number. Anyway. It was a fairly nice Easter Sunday. I woke up and went to the nursing home for mass and lunch. We went to my grandmother because, at 96.5, she can't really come to us. Mom made crawfish pasta salad and other assorted yummy things. Memere was out of it and clung to her mass book and a stuffed pink bunny. My aunt described in such detail her upcoming bladder sling surgery while I sliced bananas for the fruit salad that it was a conscious effort not to barf in the bowl. When I got home, I decided to try and bathe the dogs outside with the spray hose nozzle instead of turning the bathroom into a furry monsoon by doing it in the bathtub. I had to hold onto each of their collars for dear life to get them to stand still. They didn't mind the sudsing but they could not tolerate the rinsing. I thought they'd just dry off in the sun but instead they beelined straight for a patch of yard near the fence with no grass and rolled feverishly in the dirt. Dirt + wet dog = muddy mess. I tried to take them on a walk in the hopes that they'd dry off and lose some of the mud on the way. Zuko has a tendency to hurl himself into monkey grass and assorted shrubbery and did so into a vine full of sticky briars, so we halted so I could pick about fifty of them out of his wet fur. Mom and I went to see Holes. I forgive the producers for casting a thin Stanley, because I thought the actor did a swell job. Zero was adorable and I wanted to carry him. I thought the film was faithful to the spirit of the book, and I'm so glad I saw it. I used to say that my mom introduced herself to people by saying, "Hi, nice to meet you. Have you read Holes?" because that's how obsessed she once was with the book. She started The Secret Life of Bees yesterday and loves it already. Seriously, what's not to love? Have you read it already? I would just like to say how happy I am for Erin and Erik. What a special time this is for them. I am unspeakably excited that there is a new Everwood on this week. I cannot tell a lie. And now, gratuitous cat photos. ![]()
